The U.S. stock markets will be closed on Monday, May 27, in observance of Memorial Day. Both the Nasdaq and New York Stock Exchange will remain closed on this day and resume trading on Tuesday, May 28. Additionally, the U.S. bond market will close early at 2 p.m. ET on Friday, May 24, as per the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association.
Memorial Day, initially known as “Decoration Day,” has been observed since the 1860s to honor and remember those who have sacrificed their lives while serving in the U.S. military.
Following Memorial Day, regular trading will resume on Wall Street until mid-June. The next scheduled closure of the stock market is on Wednesday, June 19, in observance of Juneteenth.
